Strip Floors are a common flooring option as they are easy to install, maintain and can be sanded several times which makes them great value for money.
Strip Flooring: Space‑Enhancing Design for Smaller Rooms
The surfaces of strip floors are divided into equal slats and are available in wide and narrow formats. The pattern runs in the same direction, visually expanding the size of the room, which makes it an ideal option for smaller rooms. They are a great replacement for carpets and can add value and character to any house.
Durable, Low‑Maintenance Floors for Modern Offices and Retail Spaces
Strip floors are also commonplace in many modern offices and commercial establishments as they not only visually expand the interior but are also long-lasting.

Strip Floors FAQs
Strip flooring is a type of hardwood floor made up of relatively narrow boards—typically 50 – 90 mm wide—laid in parallel rows. The boards can be solid timber or engineered (a hardwood wear‑layer bonded to a plywood core) and are fitted tongue‑and‑groove to create a seamless, plank‑style surface that can be sanded and re‑sealed many times.
The main distinction is board width: strip boards are narrower (about 50 – 90 mm) while plank boards are wider (usually 100 – 200 mm or more). Narrow strips create more seam lines and visually elongate a room; wider planks show off bolder grain patterns and give a more rustic look. Installation methods and maintenance routines are otherwise very similar.
Solid strip flooring is most commonly 18 – 22 mm thick. Engineered strip boards are thinner overall—typically 12 – 15 mm—with a 3 – 4 mm solid‑oak wear layer that allows at least two full sanding cycles over the floor’s lifetime.
Two or three‑strip flooring refers to an engineered board whose face is factory‑divided into narrower “strips” across its width. When installed, each board gives the appearance of individual strips, delivering a lively, small‑plank look but with faster installation and fewer visible joints.
Engineered planks with a plywood core are suitable; we keep surface temperatures below 27 °C and use flexible adhesive to accommodate movement.
Solid 20 mm boards can be sanded 6–8 times; engineered planks with a 4 mm wear layer can be sanded twice. A screen‑and‑re‑coat extends life between full sands.
Prices can start as low as £65 + VAT per m² for fitting, sanding and three coats of lacquer. For pre-finished products, this could be reduced even further, each project is evaluated and priced individually.
